As a Marine Surveyor & Consultant I draw on my experience of having worked in the Marine Industry for 40 years, during this time I have covered all aspects of this work environment, including having trained as Boat Builder and Naval Architect.

1972 - 1981
Westerly Marine Construction Ltd - completed an Indentured City & Guilds apprenticeship in Boat Building and Ships Joinery and then gained further experience in the engineering/drawing office in the design and construction of vessels, whilst completing an ONC and HNC in Naval Architecture.
1981 - 1983
Selden Masts Ltd - Technical Sales Manager
1983 - 1991
Sigma Yachts Ltd - Sales Manager
1991 - 2007
Moody Yachts International Ltd - Senior Technical Sales Manager
2007 to date - Full time AMYDSA Yacht Surveyor (Accredited Member of the Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association)

I have produced Technical Specifications and Owner’s Manuals for various craft.

Resolved and supervised the rectification of many problems on all types of yachts and have experience in providing technical support to owners on both new and older vessels.

I have carried out a large number of pre-acceptance surveys on new yachts and condition surveys on boats being taken in part exchange.

I was project manager on the development of the 49ft blue water cruiser, the transfer of the 56ft yacht from one builder to another and the redevelopment of a 64ft sailing yacht into a 66ft blue water cruiser.

I am a keen experienced sailor who has been sailing keel boats since 1981, both competitively and more recently during the normal course of my work whilst demonstrating yachts prior to sale and handover.

Since setting myself up in business as a Marine Surveyor, I have gained further experience by carrying out numerous Pre Purchase Surveys, Insurance Renewal Surveys, Osmosis Inspections, Damage Surveys, Valuations and Tonnage Measurements.

Below is a list on some of the more popular marques of boat surveyed:

Sailing Boats: Westerly, Sigma, Sadler, Moody, Beneteau, Jeanneau, Bavaria, Southerly, Vancouver, Fisher, Island Packet, Colvic, Dehler, Gran Soleil, Oyster, Hallberg Rassy, Contessa, Parker, Hunter, Gibsea, Jouet, Dufour, Etap

The Yacht Designers & Surveyors Association of which I am an Accredited Member runs a Continuous Professional Development Program which assists its members to develop and improve their standards. To this end I have attended a number of these forums to ensure that I continue to meet their expectations, to keep up with changes in the regulations and with any new developments in technology.
